This past weekend was the LV LadyFest, a benefit for this summer’s Lehigh Valley Girls Rock camp. LVGR is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to empowering girls through music & art.

Their first Girls Rock Camp will be held in July. During this week-long day camp for girls ages 13-16, the campers will learn how to play an instrument, form a band, write an original song together and then perform at a music venue. The girls will spend the week making new friends, learning about feminism and creating art. At the end of camp, each girl will leave with a new-found sense of self empowerment and confidence.

The evening started with Goodnight Stars, Goodnight Air (GSGA) filling the room with their ambient sounds and electro beats.

Then it was followed up by Moonstruck – founders of the girls rock camp, showing people that girls can rock and sometimes, you don’t even have to be perfect to rock out. With only a guitarist and a drummer, they still wowed audiences with their garage indie-rock sound.

After that, Voirvoir who released their demo back in May rocked out. To call them local is an understatement. Their practice spot is a few hundred yards from the Burners.

Philly post punk locals Amanda X returns to the Valley and floored audiences. Those that have never seen them live was blown away by their performance that night.

Tonight was Off Camber‘s last show but unfortunately, they only played for five minutes before giving up because of the unruly people in attendance running into people (there were kids at this event as well as parents. The last thing we need are kids who are new the the scene to get hurt or be turned off from going to shows.)

To close the night off was local favorites Slingshot Dakota. This 2-piece pop act has traveled the world and back last year with Title Fight and Into It, Over It and Koji. But no matter what, they always come back and play small DIY shows with people all on top of one another.
